It may have taken a prolonged sit-down with a legal expert on national television, but Whoopi Goldberg has finally come around on Bill Cosby.
“What we've learned is there's no recourse for these women except what they're doing. If this is to be tried in the court of public opinion, I gotta say, all of the information that's out there kinda points to guilt,” Goldberg said during an on-air chat with “ABC News' chief legal analyst” Dan Abrams, during which he explained that the legal statute of limitations for almost — if not all — of the victims has expired. “Now, again, I always thought they would have the opportunity to take him to court, but you're saying that's not true.”
“No, they don't,” Abrams responded.
“People don't know that there is no way for him to go to jail […] at this point — because I've never heard of — you got a serial rapist…he's been on the streets for 30 years,” Goldberg — who had been taking more and more heat in recent weeks over her continued defense of the embattled comedian — continued later. “I have to say, I thought that yeah, here's all the information, take his ass to jail! I find out from you that that's not possible. So I can't say anymore 'innocent until proven guilty.' Can't say that anymore, because there's no way to prove it. […] You know, so we know. It looks bad, Bill. Either speak up or shut up. Cause people know now that there's a lot more out there than they thought. [to the viewers] Also, please contact your state representative and ask about the statute of limitation on cases like these.”
