Ever the innovators, McDonald’s is mulling a new change that could bring in the customers, and therefore the money. They’re currently testing the sale of Monster energy drinks in 20 of their restaurants. According to Bloomberg, the fast food chain is testing this beverage by charging about $1.50 more for customers to get one as part of a value meal.

All seems to be going well with the test, at least in this small number of restaurants. Bloomberg quotes analyst Robert Ottenstein as attributing the move to McDonald’s “generating incremental revenue and traffic for stores, with some customers coming in just to purchase Monster.” The news seems to be a good move for Monster; their stock market value increased significantly when news broke. Analyst Ottenstein said that selling through McDonald’s restaurants could mean $1.5 billion in additional revenue for the Monster brand.

Apparently, McDonald’s decided to do this, like all-day breakfast, due to customer demand. This is probably a sign, then, that McDonald’s customers should start making even more demands to turn McDonald’s into a true restaurant of the people. So how about something similar to Burger King’s delicious Hershey Sundae Pie? I’m sure I’m not alone in wanting that to come to McDonald’s as well.
