This Guy Ended Up Having The Time Of His Life After Drunkenly Booking A Trip To Brazil

We’ve all done it. Err, at least those of us who are prone to getting drunk and making poor decisions in our state of inebriation have done it: Drunk online shopping. While most of us just end up with, like, six jars of gourmet peanut butter or 100 chai spice tea bags (seriously, my Amazon app should have a goddamn breathalyzer attachment), one Scot ended up with a trip to Brazil.

After waking up following a drunken night out in Glasgow, a 24-year-old bank employee named Jamie Ather discovered that he had booked a £520 flight to Rio de Janeiro using his debit card at 5:12 a.m. He says that he had “absolutely no memory” of buying the ticket, and that it had previously never even crossed his mind to travel to South America. When the airline refused to refund the price of the ticket (apparently, most airlines do not, in fact, have a “whoops drunk lol” clause in their terms and conditions), Jamie decided to just roll with it and take the trip solo.

Everyone who knows me knows that I was so nervous about going to South America on my own, so it has given me loads of confidence to have gone and actually had an amazing time.

It has really made me realise that you just need to take risks sometimes and get over your fear if you want to get the most from life.

Jamie recalled that his favorite parts of the trip were crossing the Peru border to hike Machu Picchu, having cocktails on the Copacabana Beach in Rio, and spending time at a sloth sanctuary in Northeastern Brazil. And of course he documented his adventures on Instagram, so that we might all vicariously live through his drunken “mistake”:
