A personal creation of Hunter S. Thompson’s life is about to make a comeback thanks to the writer’s widow and it should be of interest to fans and marijuana users alike. Anita Thompson posted a few updates on Facebook outlining her plans to “clone” the DNA from the late Gonzo leader’s personal strain of marijuana in order to create Gonzo weed for legal states:

I have found a legal method to extract the DNA from Hunter’s personal marijuana and hashish that I saved for 12-15 years. I am in the process of making the strains available to those who would like to enjoy the authentic Gonzo strains in legal states. Although the the “drug lord” phrase is silly as it doesn’t match my personality, I am looking forward to making the authentic strains available in legal states to support the Farm and the scholarships.

The marijuana business is only part of the widow’s attempts to protect her husband’s legacy and further it. A recent article in the Aspen Times outlined the efforts of Thompson to purchase the rights to Owl Farm, owned by the Gonzo Trust set up Hunter Thompson before his death ensuring his wife could stay there for life, but had to work through the trust:

“The unintended consequences were that I had to be married to the trustees, where any time I had to do a repair I had to have a conversation with these lawyers,” Thompson explained of her motivation to buy it…

“So I own the house, the property, the logo and Hunter’s likeness,” she said. “And now I can protect it, as I always have, but now I can do it with full ownership.”

Thompson is also promising group invitations to a private museum at the residence by the end of 2017, given people something to look forward to. You can read her full Facebook posting below, complete with an email to send any questions to.
