While we wait for Game of Thrones season seven to arrive (how many more months to go?), Maisie Williams is hoping that we’re still glued to her social media, as she’s using it for a good cause. While visiting Taiji, Japan, Williams is using her star power to take a stand against the dolphin hunting industry, encourage people to stop attending marine shows, entreating in a Skype call for many to reconsider their stance.

“These animals travel the ocean. That’s what they explore daily. No tank will be big enough. No tank will ever be deep enough, ever be exciting enough.”

Williams is piggybacking on the work of Ric O’Barry, who starred in The Cove, which brought the spotlight to the dolphin capture and killing trade in Taiji back in 2009. Many dolphins are bludgeoned to death for their meat, while the strongest and best are kept alive and sold to marine theme parks and shows. However, Williams wants to make it clear that while she is campaigning for change, she doesn’t want to directly attack the residents of Taiji.

“It’s not an attack on Japan at all, or on Taiji, or the people of Taiji. I want to say, honestly, hand on heart, that this is not an attack on anyone in specific.”

Williams is currently on her second trip to Japan, and sees her newfound activism as a real way that she can use her celebrity as a way to make a difference.

“It was something that just struck a chord in my heart. And I’m a firm believer that, if there is something that you really want to stand up and fight for, then you should. And with everyone doing their own little bit for what they believe in, hopefully together we can make the world a better place.”

Ned Stark would be proud.
