Houston Is Letting People Register To Vote At Taco Trucks

Earlier this month, a meme was born when Marco Gutierrez, founder of “Latinos For Trump,” claimed that unless the Republican nominee was elected America would “have taco trucks on every corner” like that was some kind of national nightmare. While streets filled with delicious tacos sounds like some kind of culinary utopia to many, Trump supporters framed this as an immigration hellscape. However, many jokes were made as Democrats responded with gleeful trolling.

Well, things are getting real in Houston, Texas, as designer Thomas Hull teamed up with the Latino political movement Mi Familia Vota, to unite two great tastes that taste great together: tacos and political responsibility! If Gutierrez and the rest of the Trump campaign fear the impending onslaught of taco trucks, Mi Familia Vota is taking a different route. The organization is teaming up with a host of local taco trucks to act as voting registration centers as well as purveyors of tortilla wrapped deliciousness. According to Houston Public Media, this registration campaign will last until Tuesday, October 11, which is the cut off date for Texas.

Hull claims that empowering the public with information (as well as filling their bellies with food truck wares) is the main thrust of the campaign.

“We’re also handing out information on where to vote, with early votes and on Election Day and the process of voting, ’cause that’s–registering folks to vote–is half the battle. The other half is getting folks to the polls.”

So, if you live in the Houston area and either crave the best tacos around or still need to register to vote in November’s election, here is a complete list of participating food trucks:
