Jon Huntsman Rocked Out On Letterman Last Night

There was a time when a guy like Jon Huntsman would be a shoo-in for the Republican nomination for president. But that, of course, was before the GOP descended head-first into madness and somehow involved into a circus freakshow of sorts starring the likes of Herman Cain, Rick Perry, Donald Trump, Michele Bachmann, etc. Yes, gone are the days when a seemingly perfect candidate — one with a track record of success in addition to being handsome, articulate and likeable — who’s extremely well-liked by independent voters, and has the potential to pull votes from registered Democrats, can stand a chance with the party’s base, mainly because he is unwavering about his belief in…wait for it…science. Go figure.

ANYWAY, Huntsman was on Letterman last night and at one point the conversation turned to his time as a long-haired rocker youth. “I thought I could make it big,” Huntsman said. “I wanted to be Paul Shaffer.”

At Letterman’s request, Huntsman then went over and played keyboards on the band’s rendition of Chuck Berry’s “Johnny B. Goode” as the show went to commercial.

Sigh…what could have been.
