Fabricio Werdum Questions UFC Champ Cain Velasquez’s Mexican Heritage

The first episode of the UFC Embedded series for UFC 188 came out on Monday, and it featured the normal footage of fighters training and goofing around. For example, there’s UFC middleweight contender Luke Rockhold dropping a former UFC marketing tagline “Welcome to the Show” right before he blew up his training partner and UFC Heavyweight Champion Cain Velasquez’s hotel bathroom.

Speaking of Velasquez, his opponent and interim UFC Heavyweight Champion, Fabricio Werdum, had this to say about him:

“He’s an American that thinks he’s Mexican.”

Velasquez has frequently been needled over his struggles with the Spanish language, and it’s the Brazilian Werdum who provides Spanish commentary on UFC Latino events, not Cain. However, Cain’s father is a migrant worker from Mexico, so it’s a little unfair to imply that Velasquez doesn’t have any sort of connection to his Mexican heritage.

In case you were curious, here’s that broken wall Werdum mentions when showing off his training area.

Cain Velasquez takes on Fabricio Werdum to unify the UFC Heavyweight Championship at UFC 188 on Saturday, June 13.
