Canelo Alvarez Would Be More Than Happy To Welcome Conor McGregor To Boxing

If Floyd Mayweather isn’t willing to share enough of the money in a potential superfight of a boxing match against Conor McGregor, the Irish UFC fighter may have some other options. Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, the new top dog in boxing pay-per-views, would be more than happy to welcome Conor into his ring.

“If he wants to try out boxing, then anytime he wants,” Alvarez said in a recent interview with FightHubTV. “If he wants to come over to this side of the world and try boxing, anytime he wants, to see that it’s not as easy as he thinks.”

McGregor has been pretty cocky when it comes to the possibility of competing in different combat sports.

“Look, if you wanna fight me, we can fight,” McGregor said leading up to his rematch with Nate Diaz. “If you need a specific ruleset to protect you from a true fighter, that’s no problem. Just make sure that money is there, and so long as that money is there then we can fight under your safety net of rules. But me, I don’t need rules. I am the f**king rules.”

Would Conor be willing to take Canelo Alvarez up on his option? Only if there’s no chance of a larger payday with Floyd Mayweather. Right now both McGregor and Mayweather seem committed to facing each other eventually in a fight that probably wouldn’t go well for McGregor (outside the effect on his net worth). Why get your butt kicked in boxing for $25 million when it could happen for $50 million? But with Conor’s UFC 202 fight earning him a rumored $10 million, a Canelo fight would still worth more than business as usual with the UFC.
