Is Ronda Rousey Still Going To Make It To The Marine Ball?

It’s been a rough month for Ronda Rousey, what with her losing the UFC women’s bantamweight title to Holly Holm via headkick. According to a recent feature with ESPN, she’s “heartbroken” and hasn’t taken the loss well. So, you may excuse her if she hasn’t been keeping up with many social obligations since her fight.

But hopefully she manages to lift her spirits enough to still attend the Marine Corps Birthday Ball with Marine Jarrod Haschert. The young man made headlines when he uploaded a video asking the mixed martial arts fighter to the ball, and she made even more when she accepted. At the end of October, she reconfirmed, saying her boyfriend Travis Browne “understands” and “it ain’t no thang.”

But with everything that’s happened since that fateful day in Australia, the Marine Ball may have slipped Ronda’s mind. The event is tomorrow, Friday, December 11, and as of now, Jarrod hasn’t heard back from her. Via New Jersey 101.5:

“Jarrod said he hasn’t heard anything yet,” Jarrod’s mother Caroline told New Jersey 101.5 about plans with Rousey for the Commandant’s Marine Corps Birthday Ball, which will be held at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in National Harbor, Md. “He said, ‘All I know is I’m going in the hopes she’ll be there,’” said Caroline.

“It would be sad if he got all dressed up, expected a date and doesn’t have one,” said Caroline. “She said she would be there. A few times.”

Considering Rousey still has stitches healing in her mouth and teeth loose in her jaw, it would be understandable if she didn’t appear. But you’d hope someone on Team Rousey would reach out to Jarrod and let him know one way or another. That video of him asking Rousey to the Ball had a lot of other women swooning over him. If she can’t make it, she needs to officially step aside so some other lucky woman can.

For his part, Jarrod still thinks she’s coming:

And I’m holding out hope too that Rousey shows up as planned with her posse of female teammates known as the Four Horsewomen. With all the negativity she’s gone through lately, it sounds like she needs a fun night out with some friends.
