Check Out Mark Hamill Talking About George Lucas’ Plans For ‘Episode VII’ Way Back In 1983

There are always conflicting reports on how much George Lucas actually knew about the Star Wars saga as he was making the movies. Did he have plans for a 12-part epic? Was he making it up as he goes? Did he really think Attack Of The Clones was a good name?

Definitive proof is probably out there and we’ve gotten nibbles of it over the years, like the clip above and this interview with Lucas’ biographer Dale Pollock from The Wrap:

“It was originally a 12-part saga,” Pollock told TheWrap. “The three most exciting stories were 7, 8 and 9. They had propulsive action, really interesting new worlds, new characters. I remember thinking, ‘I want to see these 3 movies.’”

My problem here is that this guy goes on to say that Mark Hamill wasn’t fit to be brought back for Luke Skywalker in the newer films. Bullsh*t, clearly. You can say what you want about George Lucas, but the guy was onto something when he said he’d bring Hamill back in 2011 for the future series.

Now I searched for the full interview and found it was removed, so we’ve got this short clip for now. I also included a more recent look below with Hamill on the red carpet. He looks thrilled to be talking about Star Wars with people, a lot more than Harrison Ford does.
