Why There Was A Gay Sex Scene In The Original Script For ‘Good Will Hunting’

Hollywood is sometimes characterized as the land of broken promises, convoluted intentions, and lies, lies, lies. That’s why it was refreshing to hear a little anecdote from Harvey Weinstein during his Tribeca panel this weekend concerning his involvement with Good Will Hunting.

When Weinstein read the draft of the script that Ben Affleck and Matt Damon provided him, he noticed something peculiar on page 60: a gay sex scene between two professors. It wasn’t peculiar because it was gay sex, but rather because it was intimated that the professors were heterosexual, then they started giving each other oral.

“I thought they were both heterosexual in the way they talked before. He lost his wife, and he talks about his family,” Weinstein said during the Tribeca discussion. “I’m like, ‘What the hell was that?’ And they said, ‘That’s the red herring! Now, we know you’re the first guy in a studio to have read the script…’ They gave it to me on the spot. They said, ‘We’re making it with you because you read it yourself.'”

Thus ends the story of how Harvey Weinstein won the production gig on Good Will Hunting. He can thank his detection of an errant blowy.
