Your Favorite Danish Comedy Duo Is Coming To The U.S. In ‘Klovn Forever’

If there was one knock on 2010’s Klown (2012 in the U.S.), it was that it seemed to some too similar to American comedies. But for any superficial plot elements it may have shared with The Hangover et al, any American comedy that was half as funny as Klown would’ve made $100 million. Now stars Frank Hvam and Casper Christensen, along with director Mikkel Nørgaard, are back in Klovn Forever, which hits Danish theaters in September, unless it’s delayed by a Møøse attack.

That Lars Von Trier has appeared in and written for Klovn should tell you a lot about it. Imagine Curb Your Enthusiasm-style controlled improv, but replace Larry David’s neurosis with a broad Scandinavian twistedness and you’re on your way to understanding Klovn (I swear those people are obsessed with mental disabilities). Oh, and male nudity. Lots of male nudity. On that note, here’s the poster, which contains a not-insignificant amount of visible scrotum.

I interviewed Frank and Casper when the first Klown movie came out in the U.S. (Klovn Forever doesn’t have a distributor or release date yet), and one of the interesting things I discovered about them is that their slightly adversarial relationship isn’t an act.

You can watch the full Danish trailer below. You can set YouTube to translate the closed captioning to English, but you probably won’t get much out of it. Though they are driving around in a Nissan Cube, a joke vehicle that transcends language and national borders.
