Matt Damon Will Face Off Against Tommy Lee Jones In The Next ‘Bourne’ Film

Because there are never enough old men behind a nasty government conspiracy, Matt Damon’s Jason Bourne will reportedly next take on Tommy Lee Jones. Sure, Damon left his amnesiac spy behind when he dove into the murky waters of the East River at the end of The Bourne Ultimatum, but no A-list superstar can simply walk away from a billion dollar franchise, even if Jeremy Renner took over and helped The Bourne Legacy to a huge box office haul as well. Two Bourne franchises running at the same time? That’s a lot of cameras to shake.

Damon has previously said that he’d kick even more ass at some point, but only if Paul Greengrass returned to direct. According to Variety, all of the necessary pieces have fallen into place and that’s how we’ve come to today’s news about Old Man Jones becoming (presumably) the next cranky CIA figure to want Bourne dead, damn it, DEAD! The details of the next Bourne film’s plot are unknown, but it already has a release date of July 29, 2016. Julia Stiles is set to return, while Viggo Mortensen is rumored to be the really bad guy.

We can only hope that Universal recognizes the instant advertising potential and signs a deal with Chevrolet, because then the title and theme song will take care of itself…
