Anne Hathaway Is Losing Parts To 24-Year-Olds And She Feels Fine

One look at Anne Hathaway and you’d think, “Look at this beautiful woman! Surely she must be winning every role she wants, nailing auditions, swatting offers away like wanton insects!” Surprisingly, at age 32, Hathaway says that she’s already experienced ageism in Hollywood and seen the parts that she used to get in her early 20s go to… women in their early 20s. But as far as she’s concerned, this is better for her career. She explains to Glamour magazine:

I can’t complain about it because I benefited from it. When I was in my early twenties, parts would be written for women in their fifties and I would get them. And now I’m in my early thirties and I’m like, ‘Why did that 24-year-old get that part?’ I was that 24 year old once, I can’t be upset about it, it’s the way things are. All I can do right now is think that thankfully you have built up perhaps a little bit of cachet and can tell stories that interest you and if people go to see them you’ll be allowed to make more.

Anne Hathaway is officially one of the most laid-back ladies in Hollywood because, if I was her, I would be up in arms about the age disparity between leading ladies and their leading men. But she’s clearly at a place in her career and her life where she’s just gonna take a deep breath in, say “namaste,” and then pour herself a glass of wine and be done with it until a better script crosses her path. And since winning an Oscar for Les Misérables, she has certainly proved that she’s the kind of lady who can be picky about her roles. At least for now.

After she was overexposed and the subject of a crazy backlash because of that Oscar season, it looks like Hathaway has truly accepted her place and is having a blast while not giving a flying f*ck, and that’s lovely and delightful.
