The next mission is a go for Christopher McQuarrie. According to the Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation writer/director’s Twitter, he is returning to take the wheel on the follow-up to his recent acclaimed entry in the series. This will be the first time that a director has helmed more than one installment of the Mission: Impossible franchise, which usually finds itself rotating out directors after they’ve had their one shot.
Speaking of one shot, this next Mission: Impossible will be McQuarrie’s third directional effort in a row starring Tom Cruise, following Rogue Nation and the 2012 thriller Jack Reacher. The two Hollywood players have also collaborated on Valkyrie and last year’s surprisingly great Edge of Tomorrow, where McQuarrie served as writer.
The sixth Mission: Impossible will again be produced by Cruise, along with Dana Goldberg, David Ellison, and J.J. Abrams, who has worked with the franchise since helming its third installment.
