Add A Few More ‘Hits’ To The Trailer For David Cross’s Directorial Debut

Clint Eastwood accomplished it with great success. Zach Braff pissed off the internet when he did it with Kickstarter funding. I’m talking of course about actors becoming directors, and another thespian recently made the switch: everybody’s favorite Fünke, Tobias (real name David Cross).

Cross and the cast of Hits premiered the film at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival to mixed reviews. According to the official website:

Hits is a dark comedy exploring the nature of fame in 21st century YouTube America. The film takes place in a small town in upstate New York populated by people who trade in unrealistic expectations. It’s a story in which fame, delusion, earnestness, and recklessness meet, shake hands, and disrupt the lives around them.

Seems more like Braff than Eastwood, but I think that’s just fine considering the subject matter. Besides, the penultimate shot of Meredith Hagner brandishing a double-barrel shotgun while surrounded by hipsters definitely stands out as the trailer’s “Get off my lawn!” moment.
