Amber Heard Speaks Out Against Domestic Violence In Her Powerful New GirlGaze PSA

Justice League actress Amber Heard gets incredibly candid in her new domestic violence PSA for the #GirlGaze Project. Like many great public service announcements before it, this freshly released clip is powerful and unafraid to make the viewer uncomfortable to express its point.

Earlier this year, Heard divorced from Johnny Depp and alleged that she suffered domestic abuse during their relationship. Released on Friday to coincide with the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Towards Women, the two-minute piece has Heard speaking directly to the camera and opening up about her own personal experiences with abuse.

“I guess there was a lot of shame attached to that label of victim. It happens to so many women you know. When it happens in your home behind closed doors with someone you love, it’s not straightforward,” Heard tells the viewer. “If a stranger did this, as it was pointed out to me, if a stranger did this it would be a no-brainer.”

The actress acknowledges that she’s had to navigate this subject with the eyes of the world upon her. Heard believes that this unique standpoint gives her a chance to speak up for those also facing abuse.

“As a woman having gone through this in the public arena that I did, I have a unique opportunity to remind other women that this doesn’t have to be the way it is, you don’t have to do it alone, you’re not alone and also we can change this,” she said.
