‘Archer’ Might Be Getting A Live-Action Movie With The Perfect Leading Man

Now we’ll get the bad news out of the way here to start. Archer’s ratings have apparently been dropping each season since it premiered. We’ve traveled around the globe with the Archer gang formerly known as ISIS, but it would seem that the writing could be on the wall at some point soon. Luckily, the end of the show doesn’t seem to be the end of Archer.

Matt Thompson and Casey Willis spoke with Marlow Stern at The Daily Beast ahead of the season seven finale and shared some interesting tidbits about the series possibly getting a movie after the series comes to a close:

“It’s all up to whatever Adam [Reed] wants to do, but he and I have definitely talked about it,” Thompson tells The Daily Beast. “I think we talk about it once every two years. We vacillate between if you do it, why are you doing the TV show? And should it be live-action, or should it be cartoon? The talk is there, we just still haven’t decided. I don’t think there will be a movie before the last episode of Archer airs on TV. I don’t think we’ll make a movie before the series finishes.”

There’s a good reason for this. Thompson claims it was some advice from Dave Willis of Aqua Teen Hunger Force and Squidbillies fame. Willis felt that Aqua Teen Hunger Force’s movie affected the numbers for the show. So Thompson, Adam Reed, and the rest are in no hurry. But when they get to that point, they have only one name in mind to play Sterling Archer:

“It’s Jon Hamm,” says Thompson, firmly. “If Archer goes live-action, I do believe it will be Jon Hamm. Maybe you could do it with Jon Benjamin’s voice coming out of him? I don’t know. Adam is always like, ‘I don’t know if I want the movie to be live-action because I want it to be Jon Benjamin!’ But if it is live-action—and if it is not Jon Benjamin—it is our greatest hope that it would be Jon Hamm. I can say that with confidence.”

It truly is a tough decision because Jon Benjamin IS Archer in most fan’s minds. Jon Hamm can certainly play funny, had some history with Archer already, and can turn that Don Draper style up to higher levels. Mad Men is already noted as influence on the show, so it all connects.

Maybe if they manage to work out their idea for an H. Jon Hamm Benjamin hybrid person it could be something perfect on the screen. The rest of the cast is already pretty much set if they go live-action, except Pam. If they go Rebel Wilson over Amber Nash for Pam, we will riot. Put her in makeup!
