Two Big Names Join Michael Fassbender In ‘Assassin’s Creed’

As hard as it may be to believe, the Assassin’s Creed film starring Michael Fassbender is actually happening. Like, “starting to film any day now” actually happening. Not only have other cast members (Michael K. Williams, Oscar winner Marion Cotillard) joined, but we’ve actually gotten a look at Fassbender in the iconic Assassin robes. Well, now you can add two more names to the cast list, and they’re pretty big ones.

It’s been reported that both Jeremy Irons and Brendan Gleeson have signed on for roles in the film, just one week before filming is set to begin. Irons and Gleeson are set to play the fathers of the characters played by Cotillard and Fassbender, respectively.

Irons (who, like Cotillard, is also an Oscar winner) recently finished filming his role as Alfred Pennyworth in Zack Snyder’s upcoming Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. Gleeson has recently had major roles in high-profile films such as Edge of Tomorrow, the Harry Potter films, and… uh… The Smurfs 2, is also schedule to appear in the upcoming Marvin Gaye biopic Sexual Healing

The film will be directed by Justin Kurzel — who directed the recent adaptation of Macbeth, which also stars Fassbender and Cotillard — and is set to be released Dec. 21, 2016.
