The Third ‘Assassin’s Creed’ Trailer Brings Out Jeremy Irons To Explain The MacGuffin

Assassin’s Creed — or Fassassin’s Creed if we had our druthers — is trying to break the video game movie adaptation curse, or at least sell a lot of video games in the effort. If nothing else, some of the action scenes look like they could be cool, and this new trailer tries to explain the plot about as well as a video game plot can be explained.

This trailer differs from the first and second ones in that Fox has brought in co-star Jeremy Irons to luxuriate in well-lit marble halls and voraciously munch scenery by the handful. Er, we mean, they brought him in to offer some expository voiceover about the film’s MacGuffin, the “Apple Of Eden” which makes people blah blah blah world domination yadda yadda Michael Fassbender don’t play that blah blah blah we work in the dark to serve the light. Et cetera.

Yep. That’s an Apple Of Eden, all right. Recognize it anywhere.

Official synopsis:

Callum discovers he is descended from a mysterious secret society, the Assassins, and amasses incredible knowledge and skills to take on the oppressive and powerful Templar organization in the present day.

Assassin’s Creed opens December 21st.
