The Reported Confirmation Of ‘Beetlejuice 2’ Might’ve Been A Tad Bit Premature

There has been more than one confirmation for a Beetlejuice sequel over the past year or so. We first heard about it from Tim Burton himself, with a little nod from Michael Keaton that he was open to return to the character. Then Winona Ryder confirmed the film on Late Night with Seth Meyers and it seemed like a done deal at that point. Not so fast.

According to Indiewire, a representative for Burton came out and shot down earlier rumors that Beetlejuice 2 is on its way:

“Tim Burton did not confirm ‘Beetlejuice 2’ as the movie is not in development. Tim’s focus is entirely on ‘Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children’ set for a September 30, 2016 release and developing ‘Dumbo.’”

It would seem like somebody jumped the gun or spoke out of turn. Maybe the studio got on the phone to Tim Burton’s folks and yelled to keep the entire thing quiet, wanting that total control over the project and it’s information. Or the movie just isn’t happening. Who knows?

Entertainment Weekly adds that the the most recent report was based on “fabricated comments” according the same rep and the film isn’t in development at all. That’s hard to believe considering all of the talk that surfaced last year, but there isn’t much to do.

We’ll keep you updated on all Beetlejuice related news, including any news involving a gritty reboot of the franchise from James Wan. It could easily happen.
