James Gunn is getting Guardians of the Galaxy fans excited for the Blu-ray and DVD release on December 9 with a whole lot of new behind-the-scenes pictures.
For the past few weeks, he has been posting pictures on his Instagram account, showcasing some of the amazing make-up work, props, and practical effects used in the film.

#gotgpicoftheday I need that guy's eye! Bruce Mackinnon as the One-Eyed Ravager, prosthetic makeup by David White. Initially they kept bringing me designs of prosthetic eyes that were too sleek. "No, this dude needs a real shit eye. He bought it from some illegal bargain basement doctor set up in a shaky shack on the side of an asteroid. He probably sees, like, grainy 2D cartoons out of it." Finally they brought me this, the most terrible mechanical eye ever. The tiny little "sight tube" and its jerky movements were CGI'd on afterwards. As usual, I love to mix practical and CGI effects. #gotg #guardiansofthegalaxy
Michael Rooker, who has appeared in Gunn’s previous films Slither and Super, even made an appearance. According to Gunn, Rooker was helping him in “making some sort of difficult choice.”
Best of all, though, was his shout-out to the visual effects team who brought Groot and Rocket to life. Pictures like this one remind audiences how much work and artistry go into filming a movie like Guardians of the Galaxy. Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel both did a fantastic job, but their characters would have been nothing without the visual effects team.
And if that wasn’t enough, he included some high school photos of Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, and little dorky Rocket. Striped polo shirts are really not the right look for Rocket. Nope, definitely not.
