Chris Pratt Worked Hard To Make His Sex Scene With Jennifer Lawrence Less Awkward

Passengers is Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt’s first movie together, which somehow seems impossible. They were destined to be co-stars since the day they were crowned two of the internet’s favorite (if occasionally controversial) people, but they didn’t meet until two weeks before filming Morten Tyldum’s upcoming science-fiction romance. Now, whether lobbying insults or getting revenge, they’re inseparable. Speaking of two things becoming one: during a recent SiriusXM Town Hall, Pratt talked about his sex scene with Lawrence in Passengers, which she claims she got “really, really drunk” for.

“I don’t want to make generalizations based on gender, but I feel the responsibility falls on me [to make my costar comfortable], and I’ve been in that situation a couple times,” he said. “Essentially it’s your job to just minimize the discomfort by, you know, making sure there’s nobody else on set than is required, having a closed set, periodically checking in, and just doing everything you can to assure the person you’re with that they’re okay.”

Pratt continued, “For all the sense of anxiety that comes leading up to a scene like this, you get into it and you realize there’s really nothing sexy about it at all. It’s just really awkward. But you know, it’s part of the gig and you just do what you can to check in with the other person and try to minimize any discomfort that they feel.” He certainly felt more comfortable with Lawrence than his The Magnificent Seven co-star, Denzel Washington.

“I think it’s fair to say Denzel met all of his professional obligations on Magnificent Seven,” which Pratt told BuzzFeed was like a “four-month Wild West camp” that paid them, “and it’s also fair to say that Jennifer Lawrence is someone I really enjoy being around.”

His mouth said “being around,” but his heart meant “pooping around.”
