Thanks To ‘Deadpool’ Breaking Records, ‘X-Force’ Could Be Rated-R, Too

Deadpool outpaced estimates and broke records for an R-rated movie on a budget of only $58 million. It also had the largest opening of any X-Men movie so far, which has led some of us to wonder if studios are going to completely misinterpret what made it a success (chimichangas and pegging) and turn unnecessary R-ratings into the next crappy 3-D conversion.

And so X-Men producer Simon Kinberg is already addressing questions about R-rated future X-Men movies. At a Q&A following Collider’s preview screening of Deadpool, Kinberg was asked if there are any other X-Men films he could see being made with an R-rating.

“I think there are some stories that could be R-rated. I don’t know what they are, I mean I think the mainline X-Men movies have their own tone, which is a more operatic tone. It’s more dramatic, it is more PG-13 in a way. X-Force I could see being R-rated, and who knows?” (Via)

After Rob Liefeld pointed out that’s going to be a headline for sure (yep, it is), Kinberg clarified that an X-Force movie could be an R-rated story, not that it definitely would be.

It’s also worth noting Ryan Reynolds recently said, “X-Force is really my priority” and he wants an R-rating for it. Even though the X-Force movie Jeff Wadlow (Kick-Ass 2) was working on got iced by X-Men: Apocalypse, rumors emerged recently that Fox still wants to make X-Force with Deadpool, Colossus, Psylocke, Archangel, and Cable. The rumors were fueled in part by a video of Reynolds and Munn play fighting and news that Deadpool 2 will include Cable (which a Deadpool after-credits sequence also confirmed). Stephen Lang (Avatar) is already vying to play Cable, although Liefeld has said his dream pick would be Jon Hamm.

If they did cast Jon Hamm, we can hope any R-rating for Deadpool 2 or X-Force would be due to just too much sexy.
