‘Doctor Strange’ Is A Time-Travel Story, According To Kevin Feige

Despite it being the very last week of 2015, the movie exclusives out of Hollywood keep rolling out. Entertainment Weekly has plenty of information about Marvel’s upcoming Doctor Strange, including a first look at the costume to the unsurprising revelation that Mads Mikkelsen will be playing a villain. But buried in their various articles is a rather big hint as to just what the good Doctor might be dealing with in terms of a plot.

Kevin Feige discusses Strange’s various powers in a short profile of the character, mentioning the usual suspects like flight, courtesy of the Cloak of Levitation, casting spells, and opening portals to new worlds. But one of Strange’s more useful and iconic tools, the Eye of Agamotto, has some interesting properties tied to the plot:

[The Eye] has the ability to do any number of things, the most dangerous of which is, it can sort of manipulate probabilities. Which is also another way of saying, ‘screw around with time’ — which is part of our story.

That sure sounds quite a bit like Strange and his buddies will be going back in time, or trying to set right what’s been newly broken by our villain. It would also be a rather large hint that the Eye of Agamotto owes its powers, at least in part, to the Time Gem, one of the Infinity Stones that Thanos seeks and one of two Infinity Stones still unaccounted for in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This in turn raises a question of whether or not we might see a few Avengers or their buddies turn up to try and take Strange’s brooch away. We’ll find out November 4.
