Antoine Fuqua’s ‘Magnificent Seven’ Remake Is Turning Into A ‘Training Day’ Reunion

Without a doubt, Antoine Fuqua’s Training Day is one of the most well-known instant classics to come out of the 2000s. Unfortunately, since Denzel Washington won Best Actor for his role as Detective Alonzo Harris, few of the film’s principle players have gotten together for a reunion on other projects – the rare recent example being The Equalizer, which was directed by Fuqua and starred Washington.

Fuqua is reportedly aiming to go one step further with his latest project, a remake of the 1960 classic The Magnificent Seven, as Ethan Hawke is close to joining Washington as his stars.

Sources say the Oscar-nominated [Ethan Hawke] is in final negotiations to join [Denzel Washington] in MGM’s “Magnificent Seven” remake with [Antoine Fuqua] directing. (via Variety)

Should Hawke lock down a deal to join the film, it will mark the first time him, Washington, and Fuqua have worked together since the 2001 feature. That alone makes this remake a thing to celebrate.
