Hugh Jackman Could See Tom Hardy Playing A ‘Younger’ Wolverine After He’s Finished

So with Hugh Jackman wrapping up his time in the X-Men universe with a few cameos in the upcoming films and a final Wolverine film, the media attention is now beginning to shift to what’s next for the character. That means Jackman’s promo tour for Pan is full of folks asking questions about who should play the next Wolverine. According to Jackman, the answer is simple: get Tom Hardy.

No, this isn’t a repeat or a swishing of the news that also circulated about possible James Bond casting rumors. This is Wolverine, a “younger” and equally beloved character that has box office popularity that studios will want to keep alive. There’s no official word here, obviously, but it would seem that the guy playing him could get behind his choice here according to MTV News:

“I haven’t really given it a lot of thought,” Jackman said. “I’ve been asked that question a lot, and I’m always like, ‘I don’t wanna make it too easy on the studio to replace me,’ you know? I’ve still got one more to do. I’m sure they’re already talking about it, and there’s some actor [they’ve told] ‘shh, keep it quiet but we want you next…

“He’s younger than me for sure,” Jackman said. “I think Tom Hardy would be a great Wolverine.”

If we don’t hear about Idris Elba being up for the role within the week, I’ll be shocked. That just seems to be the way things like this play out here recently. Would Elba make a good Wolverine? Sure. Why not? Completely toss everything up once the big X-Men reboot happens and give him a cigar and some claws. It’ll be awesome.
