Steven Spielberg Talks Up ‘Indiana Jones 5’ During A Harrison Ford Tribute

Rumors of Indiana Jones 5 have been picking up speed since Disney bought Lucasfilm in 2012. Disney’s Bob Iger and Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy have both admitted they want a fifth Indy movie, and producer Frank Marshall recently shot down rumors that Harrison Ford would be recast. Then, just last month, Steven Spielberg joked about his next project being “Indy 5 with Harrison.” This weekend, he added more cause for speculation, calling the project his “fervent hope.”

The statement came during a tribute to Harrison Ford while he was being honored with the Albert R. Broccoli Britannia Award for Worldwide Contribution To Entertainment at Friday night’s British Academy Britannia Awards celebration at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. The award was presented to Ford by J.J. Abrams, and taped messages from Spielberg and George Lucas were played during the presentation. In Spielberg’s congratulatory message, he joked, “I can’t wait to work with you again on Indiana Jones 5. This is NO announcement, just my fervent hope.”

So it’s nothing official, but at least it’s enough of a possibility for Spielberg to have no qualms about bringing it up at an awards show. And, for what it’s worth, Harrison Ford’s acceptance speech started out with some pure Harrison Ford: “I didn’t prepare a speech. I could barely get dressed.”
