Jason Statham On The Marvel Universe: ‘My Grandma Could Do That’

Jason Statham was the subject of some Marvel-related casting rumors this week when whispers from on high, or down in the streets, or wherever whispers come from, indicated that the braintrust over there might be “eyeing” him up to play Bullseye in Season 2 of Daredevil. (I’m sorry for that pun. I don’t feel great about it.) This is notable for a few reasons, including (1) it would be awesome, (2) Jason Statham should be in everything, and Daredevil falls under the “everything” umbrella, and (3) whooooooooops he just said this about Marvel to the Italian movie website I 400 Calci during the press tour for his new movie, Spy.

Via the A.V. Club:

“I could take my grandma and put her in a cape, and they’ll put her on a green screen and they’ll have stunt doubles come in and do all the action. Anybody can do it,” he said. “They’re relying on stunt doubles, and green screen, and $200 million budgets, it’s all CGI created. To me, it’s not authentic.”

I know this is intended as a shot at the Marvel Universe, superhero movies, and the state of cinema in 2015, but all I could think when I read that was “You know what? I would watch a superhero movie starring Jason Statham’s grandma.” Let’s do this.
