John Boyega Thinks Everyone Should Just Chill Out About The ‘Star Wars’ Romance

Fandom being what it is these days, people walked out of Star Wars: The Force Awakens shipping at least two characters. Finn/Poe, Kylo Ren/Hux, and Kylo Ren/Rey (these people need Jesus) were some of the more popular pairings, but people also went with with more conventional route by hoping for romance between Rey and Finn. As our leading lady and leading man, that would be the most obvious choice, but John Boyega thinks everyone should just cool their jets, because things are not going to turn out like fans think.

During an interview with Variety while at Cannes, Boyega claims that while he and Daisy Ridley’s adorable friendship translates well to screen, people are not going to guess how things play out romantically.

I loved the developing romance between your character, Finn and Rey in “The Force Awakens.” How is that romance evolving in the next chapter?

Boyega: I mean, we didn’t establish a romance in seven; we never played it that way. Daisy and I, we’re friends.

So there’s no romance?

Boyega: Yes, Finn and Rey – they’re just friends. Finn is a storm trooper, so he doesn’t really know what’s going on. So the romance thing is something that’s going to be interesting in the next installment. It’s not going to go the way you think it’s going to go.

John Boyega, crusher of romantic dreams. Still, this isn’t the romance that people really want. Keep those StormPilot dreams alive, folks.
