Kyle MacLachlan Saves You Time By Fitting The Plot Of ‘Dune’ Into One Tweet

David Lynch’s take on Dune has a history of being a ‘box office bomb’ with some cult leanings here today. Lynch famously distanced himself from the film following its release, adding the pseudonym Alan Smithee as his credit after some studio intervention. Luckily Lynch’s contract from this film required him to make another film for Dino De Laurentiis and we ended up with Blue Velvet, but Dune still sticks out as a problem. It’s also a little confusing in film form, which is solved here in the modern day by some crafty tweeting by star Kyle MacLachlan.

A fan asked MacLachlan to explain the film to her and he obliged in emoji format:

If that’s confusing, don’t worry. Even The AV Club was confused and author William Hughes seems to have a better grasp than I could ever hope to have. It is an excuse to talk about what might’ve been with Alejandro Jodorowsky’s take on it, as seen in Jodorowsky’s Dune. The history behind this film is likely more important than anything you’ll see on the screen — or in MacLachlan’s tweet — with influences galore on films that would follow, most notably Alien.

Now it’s time for a feature that outlines the details of MacLachlan’s tweet with the events of the movie, then comparing them to the book before folding it back on Jodorowsky’s version of the film. That’s what this is screaming for, obviously.
