Learn More About The Villains Behind ‘Doctor Strange’ With This Featurette

We’re still a ways away from the release of Marvel‘s next behemoth, Doctor Strange. Benedict Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Rachel McAdams and Tilda Swinton will bring their Oscar nominations (and win, in Swinton’s case) to mega-franchise land on November 4.

In preparation for the event, Marvel decided to post a video on YouTube in which fans can begin to get a feel for the characters who will populate this latest, massive project, particularly the villains out to cause problems for our hero. Leading the way of course, is Hannibal and Casino Royale star Mads Mikkelsen. Because what’s a movie or TV show or really any Hollywood project that has villains if Mikkelsen isn’t playing one of them, right?

Anyway, Marvel grand poobah Kevin Feige himself appears in the video to discuss the excitement surrounding the villains of Doctor Strange, who are known as “the zealots,” and “become seduced by what they find on the other side.” Mikkelsen plays Kaecilius, who we see in a variety of concept renderings, and explains that his character, “is part of this temple” and notes that “if the majority is looking for the truth here” then Kaecilius is looking for it “over there.” That’s very deep, Mads. Very deep indeed.

We also learn that Kaecilius is interested in “spilling the barriers between two dimensions,” which sounds pretty cool as well as very deep. A little over two months from now, we can see for ourselves what this all really means.
