Mel GIbson’s ‘Hacksaw Ridge’ Is An Action Packed War Epic That Doesn’t Fire A Single Shot

Mel Gibson has a bit of a strange history when it comes to Hollywood. Gibson first broke into the mainstream as an action hero, taking on the role of Max Rockatansky in the original Mad Max trilogy before he moved on to Hollywood proper where he became a leading man best known for films like Lethal Weapon and Forever Young. Gibson would go on to start directing his own films, with the wildly-successful Braveheart cementing him as a Hollywood heavyweight.

The next film that he directed as The Passion of the Christ, which proved to be controversial, including his father publicly denying that the Holocaust ever happened. So while Gibson might be contemplating a second Passion of the Christ, the only film that he’s directed since then was the Meso-American action film Apocalypto. But finally, after ten years away from the directorial lens, Gibson is returning with Hacksaw Ridge.

Hacksaw Ridge is a story about a Seventh-Day Adventist christian, Desmond T. Doss, who enlists in the US military as a medic while refusing to fire a single shot during World War II, as it was contrary to his beliefs. The movie is based on a true story of Doss, who went on to receive a medal of honor from Harry S. Truman for saving the lives of over 75 of his comrades.

The release date is on November 4th, which is four days before US Election Day, meaning there is probably some sort of statement may be in there somewhere.
