Michael Sheen Will Make His Directorial Debut With ‘Green River Killer’

Masters of Sex star Michael Sheen is going to become one of America’s most notorious serial killers. Not in real life, mind you. In a motion picture.

Variety reports that Sheen will play Gary Ridgway in Green River Killer, a film that will also serve as the Welsh actor’s directorial debut. Sheen wrote the screenplay for the project (it hit the Black List in 2015) which is adapted from the Eisner-Award winning graphic novel Green River Killer: The True Detective Story from Jeff Jensen and Jonathan Case. (Jeff’s father Tom worked on the Green River case.) Ridgway killed 49 women in the Pacific Northwest and is currently serving life in prison for his crimes.

“This is a dark story but one that ultimately finds hope and meaning in that darkness,” said Sheen. “The story of Tom and Gary, and how they are bound together in time, pulled me in from the beginning and wouldn’t let go. I hope that by now bringing it to life on screen, it can make audiences feel the same way.”

No date is attached yet to the film’s arrival. Odds are it’ll be a smidge more respectable than the 2005 film of the same name.
