Lucasfilm is keeping the details of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story close to its collective vest, but they do have to market it, and that means cutting together some trailers. And, despite not making that big a deal of it, there’s a bit of new footage in the international trailer.
This version follows the basic layout of the story trailer we just saw, but there are a few differences. Probably the biggest: The trailer confirms that the team is, in fact, going after Jyn Erso’s father as well as the Death Star plans, so we know what role Mads Mikkelsen is playing here.
We also get a few more brief glimpses of Donnie Yen playing the wise blind quasi-Jedi, and also of those elite stormtroopers in black armor that were hinted at in one of the previous leaks, although we’re still not totally sure what makes them different from the usual cannon fodder. The trailer also curiously reuses a number of shots from the original teaser, which is interesting in and of itself, as it might suggest Lucasfilm and Disney are deliberately limiting what trailer companies can draw from to reduce spoilers. The wait to see what Jyn and company have up their sleeves won’t be long, however. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story debuts this December.
