Samuel L. Jackson Says Mace Windu’s Alive, And George Lucas Agrees

Samuel L. Jackson has opened up a serious can of theory crafting for Star Wars fans. The legendary actor who played the purple sabre-wielding, Anakin training-questioning badass for three Star Wars films told fans during a Twitter Q&A that he believes Mace Windu is alive. His logic is somewhat sound: Jedi can fall great distances. Jedi also have a proclivity towards getting their arms cut off then moving on with their lives. So maybe he’s onto something.

“Of course he is! Jedi can fall from amazing distances. And there’s a long history of one-handed Jedi. So why not?”

Apparently, Mr. Jackson was so into this idea that Mace Windu was alive after his battle with Emperor Palpatine that he brought it up to George Lucas, which was revealed during a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly.

“George is like, ‘I’m okay with that. You can be alive.”

But could he really survive a full load of Force Lightning THEN the fall? His arm is fine, I’m sure. The lightsaber cauterizes the wound. But really, is Mace Windu out there somewhere, probably in a sketchy Cantina, waiting for his time to kick bad guy butt? Take a look at the battle scene for reference.

Of course, George Lucas has nothing to do with Star Wars anymore, so he could just be throwing Sam a bone, but what if Windu was out there, helping Yoda set up his pad on Dagobah and learning the ways of the Force Ghost? What if Mace Windu decided that he wanted to just walk the earth, like Caine in Kung Fu?

What if Mace Windu traveled across multiple galaxies, landed on a nice, hospitable planet, then became a bag man for a Hutt-like criminal?

What if Jules is Mace Windu, hiding from the Sith?

Oh, also — do you think Mace felt conflicted over using a sword when he could’ve been working to develop a cool light mace or something?
