‘Sausage Party’ Has Released A Red Band Trailer, And Laughs Are Guaranteed

No, Seth Rogen and his pals didn’t churn out a movie about Chicago’s Donald Trump footlongs in record time. Nor were they inspired to create something wholly new after skimming through the most popular definitions on Urban Dictionary. (Although, to be frank, that’s probably closer to the truth than not.) Rather, he and frequent collaborator Evan Goldberg — whose Preacher series is set to premiere in May — co-wrote Sausage Party, an animated film about supermarket groceries on a quest to return to the aisles before a major sale. The catch? This isn’t just another Pixar knock-off.

Sausage Party is an adult comedy that, judging by the number of curses and grisly deaths depicted in the new red band trailer, will be rated R by the MPAA at the very least. Besides, what children (let alone some adults) wouldn’t be traumatized by the narrative’s main point of conflict? All of this food thinks being bought means going home to the promised land, and when they get there, they discover “the truth” of their existence. That once they leave their lives in the grocery store, their buyers take them away to slice, dice, grate, cook and eat them all. Unless, like some of us, you frequently forget the greens you purchased until you smell them rotting in the crisper.
