‘Captain America 3’ Directors Confirm Scarlett Johansson Is On Board As Black Widow

Not to be outdone by their screenwriting colleagues, Captain America: Civil War directors Joe and Anthony Russo have added to yesterday’s conversation about who will appear in Cap’s second sequel and officially confirmed Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow for the cast list. Either Marvel knows there is a lot more of Black Widow’s story to tell or they feel really guilty about not giving her a solo movie of her own. Or both.

At an appearance in Bejing, the Russos discussed their excitement about their next Captain America production and the people we’ll definitely be seeing fight alongside — and possibly against — Steve Rogers:

“We’ve been preparing for the movie since the one debuted last year,” Anthony said. “So, we’ve been working on it for a long time now. We’re very happy how it’s coming along. Captain America 3 is gonna be called Captain America: Civil War and it’s going to star Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson will be back, Winter Soldier [Sebastian Stan] will be back, and Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man will also be joining us in the next film.”

Anthony Mackie will also be back as Falcon, as will Frank Grillo as Crossbones and possibly Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye. Daniel Bruhl has also been cast in a role that hasn’t been named yet, and Chadwick Boseman was confirmed for his first Marvel Cinematic Universe appearance as Black Panther by screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely yesterday.

Of course, Marvel being Marvel, that was about all the Russos could say. Since we haven’t yet seen where Avengers: Age of Ultron leaves our heroes, it’s hard to predict what Black Widow’s role will be in Civil War, but at least we know she’s there. Cannot say the same for this log, though.

That log is definitely dead. But death means nothing to Marvel…
