‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Will Have A Substantial Seven Deleted Scenes On Home Video

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is still raking in the space bucks at multiplexes, but, like all movies, The Force Awakens will eventually leave theaters and make its way to DVD and Blu-ray. Of course that means deleted scenes, special features and all manner of other goodies for fans to obsess over!

In a recent interview with The Independent, The Force Awakens‘ editors Mary Jo Markey and Maryann Brandon let slip how much new footage we can expect with the upcoming Star Wars discs.

“I think there are maybe seven or eight [deleted scenes]. I don’t know if that’s a lot. I remember looking at the reel. Actually, I think there are seven.

I honestly think that what is in the film is exactly what needs to be in the film, and what isn’t remains fun but not necessary.”

Okay, so it sounds like none of the scenes are going to contain anything Alderaan-shattering, but seven deleted scenes sounds pretty substantial. Of course, they could all be a second long, I suppose. Now, do we have any idea of what will be happening in these scenes? Well, (mild The Force Awakens spoilers ahead)…

…word is the vision Rey has when she touches Luke Skywalker’s lightsaber will be extended. There’s speculation it may include footage of a Luke-Darth Vader battle.

There isn’t a firm release date for The Force Awakens‘ DVD/Blu-ray yet, although it’s expected to arrive in the next couple months.
