A New Frontrunner To Play Han Solo In Upcoming ‘Star Wars’ Movie Emerges

Star Wars fans don’t have to fear about a lack of content while the franchise sits firmly in the grasp of Disney, because there is going to be a lot of Star Wars over the coming years. While fans are gearing up for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story later this year, slated for a 2018 release is a spin-off starring a young Han Solo. The still untitled Han Solo project is being written by long time Star Wars writer Lawrence Kasdan alongside his son, Jon. This will mark the final time that Kasdan works on a Star Wars film, with his past credits including The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens.

The upcoming Han Solo movie will focus on a younger Han Solo and how he became the lovable rogue smuggler that fans grew to know and love. While the film is due for a May, 2018 release they’ve yet to make a concrete decision on just who will get to portray the iconic role of Han Solo just yet, although they had whittled down the list of names to a select few. Deadline is reporting that while not official yet, it looks like Alden Ehrenreich is the front runner now after an impressive performance in a screen test.

For those not familiar with Alden Ehrenreich, look no further than this year’s Cohen Brothers feature, Hail, Caesar!, where Ehrenreich gave a memorable performance as Hobie Doyle. If he lands the star-making role of Han Solo still remains to be seen, but things seem to be coming together nicely for the young actor.
