The Latest ‘Star Wars’ Theory On Rey’s Origins Might Be The Most Compelling Yet

Many ideas have been tossed out about the origins of Rey in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. She could be a Skywalker, making all of our main characters one big related mess that is screwing up the galaxy, or she could be Han Solo and Leia’s daughter that’s been tossed into hiding because of the fearsome and emotional Kylo Ren. You see how that works out near the end of The Force Awakens. But what if none of that is the case for Rey?

The video above from Mr. Sunday Movies puts forth the idea that Rey is actually related to the late, great Obi Wan Kenobi. That would mean that A) Kenobi got a little busy during his time in exile on Tatooine and B) the children of Obi Wan Kenobi escaped any involvement in the Galactic Civil War that drove the original trilogy. Certainly not a hard sell given Kenobi’s notable hiding skills and the big chunk of time he had to waste between Revenge Of The Sith and A New Hope.

Still, the theory is pretty tough to believe given his dedication to being a Jedi and their typical lack of romantic relationships (Skywalkers don’t adhere to that rule it seems). It’s also a tough sell due to Rey’s age and her comprehension of her force powers. Did her real parents strand her on Jakku because of her freak tendencies? Or is this whole Kenobi thing just a load of crap?

At least she wasn’t born from midichlorians in another virgin birth. We’ve already been through that one, even if it makes you good at pod racing. Most of the theories revolving around Rey seem to be an attempt to avoid the obvious solution.
