District 13 Hacks Mazda’s Ad In ‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part One’ TV Spots

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part One has dropped three new TV spots, including an unusual tie-in ad with Mazda.

The focus of the new TV spots is the propaganda war between the Capitol and the rebels in District 13. In ‘Caesar,’ Caesar Flickerman, played by Stanley Tucci, warns District 13 and anyone thinking of joining District 13 to stop. Peeta is also delivering the Capitol’s script while trying to warn Katniss of a coming attack.

‘No More Games’ is centered on President Snow, played by Donald Sutherland, and his threat to Katniss: “Miss Everdeen, it is the things we love most that destroy us.” There is also Haymitch, played by Woody Harrelson, explaining that Peeta is the Capitol’s propaganda tool. It ends on a defiant note with Katniss shouting, “We must fight back!”

The Official Mazda TV Spot, however, is the most unusual of all the new TV spots. It is a typical Mazda ad with seemingly no tie-ins with Mockingjay, until the 16 second mark. Beetee, played by Jeffrey Wright, seemingly breaks into the transmission with a promise to Peeta that they are coming to rescue him.

By far, the Mazda tie-in is the most interesting of the new TV spots, and it is the closest in spirit to ‘Together as One,’ one of the first teasers for Mockingjay Part One. I would love to see Beetee interrupting more TV commercials leading up to the release of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part One on November 21.
