Brad Bird Says ‘The Incredibles 2’ Is His Next Movie, Tries To Deflect ‘Star Wars’ Rumors

Brad Bird is the guy we can thank for The Iron Giant, Ratatouille, and The Incredibles, and perhaps thank for Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol and Tomorrowland (haven’t seen either). We already knew he decided in 2014 to do The Incredibles 2, and we had some suggestions. About a month ago, we got another update when Bird told NPR he’d just started writing it. He now revealed in a long interview with Collider that The Incredibles 2 is his next project. It’s finally happening.

Collider also asked Bird if he would considering directing a Star Wars film, being that he turned down directing Episode VII to focus on finishing Tomorrowland, and there just so happens to be a Star Wars spin-off suddenly in need of a director. Bird got our hopes up then kicked them in front of a bus:

“Well Kathy and I have discussed the possibility of– I mean she’s basically saying this is a very large sandbox and other people can play in it. I was particularly attracted to the idea of picking up and– J.J. got very excited about the notion of shaping the next trilogy, and that idea was interesting to me too. But I kind of, I’m writing a sequel to The Incredibles and I can’t think too much farther beyond that. I have other things I want to do as well. […]

“Yeah in fact just avoid all this Star Wars stuff. Everybody’s feeding too much on that anyway.”

Feeding too much on Star Wars? I don’t know any website named after an obscure Star Wars reference that would ever do that…
