The Opening Sequence Of James Bond’s ‘SPECTRE’ Features 1,500 Extras

Late last year, before the title and cast of the 24th James Bond film were even announced in London, there were reports that SPECTRE was already way over budget. Like, ridiculously over budget. That information, of course, seemed legitimate because it came from some super sneaky people and an epic email leak, but nevertheless things seemed to move along swimmingly for director Sam Mendes and his star, Daniel Craig. Still, we can’t help but wonder how a movie that hadn’t even started filming yet could be so expensive, and now this featurette pulls the curtain back a tad in revealing just how over-the-top and flashy this installment will be.

Mendes says that he “wanted the audience to be dropped right into the middle of a very, very specific, very heady, rich environment,” referring to an incredibly authentic Day of the Dead festival that will serve as SPECTRE’s opening sequence. In all, 1,500 extras were brought in to bring this festival to life and each one of them had a unique costume designed and created by the staff featured in this vlog, which I assume also cost $200 million to produce.
