‘The Dark Tower’ Ushers A ‘Vikings’ Star Into Its Cast

For a work that has a reputation for being notoriously “unfilmable,” the cinematic adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower appears to be chugging along quite nicely. Good job, everybody! Maximum Overdrive frisbees for all!

Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey are both a go for the film. You may want to pencil in Jackie Earle Haley and wonder about Aaron Paul while you’re at it. And now Variety reports that Vikings actress Katheryn Winnick will be joining the motion picture. It doesn’t appear to be public who Winnick will play in this dark fantasy film, so let’s all put on speculation caps and start barking out names until we get to one that seems best. What we are reasonably sure of is that she will not play her character from the Canadian comedy curio Student Bodies.

(Reminder: The Dark Tower is the sort of massive work that isn’t exactly pick up-n-play. To get a good primer on the subject matter and its trek through development hell, read Dan Seitz’s The Long Road To The Dark Tower.)

Provided there aren’t any unforeseen circumstances, The Dark Tower is currently pegged to arrive in theaters on February 17, 2017. Production is already underway for the movie, which sees Nikolaj Arcel in the director’s chair.
