Weekend Movie Preview: ‘The Intern’

It’s the weekend and you’ve got your choice between DeNiro as a kindly grandpa to a twentysomething… or a bunch of twentysomethings getting eaten.

The Intern

Robert DeNiro plays a retired executive who hates retirement, so he becomes an intern at a high-powered fashion website. It is, by all accounts, precisely not the kind of movie that the trailers have been selling, which is an interesting conundrum. But it seems to be the best option if you want a comedy, so at least it’s funny.

Hotel Transylvania 2

The plot of this movie is a grandfather wants to keep his daughter and her baby at a dangerous hotel because he can’t deal with the idea of them leaving. Which is… weird. And kind of unhealthy. On the other hand, they are monsters, so that’s a factor. It’s also the only kid’s movie in theaters this weekend, for parents yet another factor.

The Green Inferno

Eli Roth’s troubled follow-up to the Hostel franchise finally comes to the screen. Essentially, a bunch of white people are flying down to the rainforest to save a tribe; their plane crashes, and the tribe turns out to view them as lunch. Of note, it was supposed to come out two years ago, but supposedly the financing company involved got in trouble. Why that means the movie had to sit on the shelf for two years is an exercise best left to Rotten Tomatoes.
