Jubilee Welcomes New Students To Xavier’s School For Gifted Youngsters In An ’80s Tinged Commercial

As we get closer and closer to the Memorial Day weekend release of X-Men: Apocalypse, it’s starting to feel like we’ve seen the entire film already due to released footage. However, Fox decided to take a different approach with the latest of their promotional videos. Instead of showing us yet another shot of Psylocke slicing a car in half or Magneto angrily using his powers (so much angst, that one), we get an X-Men twist on the classic ’80s infomercial.

Jubilee (played by Lana Condor in Apocalypse) hasn’t been featured much in the lead up to the film’s release, but she gets her moment to assure some budding mutants that despite their difficulty, there is a “totally rad” place in the world for them: Xavier’s School For Gifted Youngsters. On top of touting the involvement of renowned geneticist Dr. Charles Xavier, Jubilee claims that the school will also get students prepared for the “fast paced world of 1983.” Far out. With the grainy composition, overly-cheery dispositions, and an abundance of polo shirts, this promo nails that ’80s feel.

A bit of voiceover from Stan Lee really adds the cherry on top of this candy colored confection. Something tells me that with the looming threat of ultimate destruction from Oscar Isaac’s Apocalypse, the actual film won’t be quite as sunny.
