Bryan Singer Wants To Give The Original ‘X-Men’ Cast Closure In One Last Movie

The X-Men series is forging ahead with a new, young cast of mutants, but the series can’t quite seem to let go of the past either. Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine has a well-publicized part in X-Men: Apocalypse, Patrick Stewart has confirmed he’ll be Professor X-ing it up in Wolverine 3, and now Bryan Singer is talking about getting the whole gang back together one last time.

The main reason Singer wants to get the original cast together one more time? X-Men: The Last Stand sucked, and he wants to give them real closure.

“I like finishing things. I like finishing this particular iteration. I know X-Men 3 was quite rushed and I didn’t complete it, and I felt a little like it was probably my responsibility to do that as a filmmaker, and I didn’t.”

When asked specifically about bringing the original cast back in a future movie, Singer had this to say…

“I hope so. I went and saw Patrick Stewart’s wife sing at a local venue with Ian McKellen. The two of us were sitting there watching Patrick’s lovely wife sing, and I was thinking, ‘yeah, at some point it would be lovely to see them all again.’ They’re all great actors and great people, and I had great experiences with them. I’d love to see that happen — it’s just you have to figure it out. How do you do that? You can’t do it for the sake of doing it, you have to do it right.”

Will it actually happen? The original X-Men cast is getting up there in years and pretty expensive, but there does seem to be a genuine camaraderie amongst them. We could certainly see a cameo happening. One final scene to say goodbye before they definitively turn it over to the new kids.

What do you think? Would you like to see the old gang back together, or is it time to move on?
