Today Is Officially ‘Foo Fighters Day’ In Richmond, Virginia

Fresh off their impromptu tour of London as “The Holy Shits” and their closing ceremony set at the Invictus Games on Sunday, Foo Fighters are back in the U.S. and still ready to rock for the people who love them. Specifically, Dave Grohl and Co. will be playing for the 1,500-person crowd tonight at The National in Richmond, Virginia, as some of the city’s best and most dedicated Foo Fans organized a crowdsourcing campaign earlier this year to bring the band back to town for the first time since 1998. Andrew Goldin was the fan who launched the effort with a clever video and the hope of selling 1,400 tickets to a show that didn’t actually exist, and needless to say it worked like a charm.

So while fans were stoked to see some Foo for the first time in 16 years, Richmond Mayor Dwight Jones decided to take advantage of the situation and declare today, September 17, Foo Fighters Day in RVA. And this isn’t just some artificial sentiment conceived to allow the mayor to clasp his hands and shake them over each shoulder in triumph. Jones signed an official proclamation, and fans in Richmond will be able to celebrate the world’s coolest band on this day for the rest of eternity.
